Adolescent Inpatient Mental Health

Your teen is busy with school, friends, family and activities. If severe mental health issues are getting in the way of their life, we can help. The Meadows Psychiatric Center offers special programming for children ages 14 to 17. Our adolescent inpatient mental health program helps your child open up about what’s troubling them and learn how to navigate life with confidence.

Inpatient Mental Health Services for Teens in Pennsylvania: Why Choose Us?

Social pressures, physical changes and a need for independence can overwhelm teens. Sometimes, these issues give way to acute mental health symptoms that require inpatient care. We are one of the few psychiatric hospitals for teens in the region and help many teens feel better.

At The Meadows, you’ll find:

  • Compassion: Your child receives services from providers who support their recovery without judgment. We listen carefully as they discuss what’s on their mind and offer age-appropriate guidance for moving forward. Our approach helps adolescents feel listened to and cared for throughout their stay.
  • Personalized treatments: Everyone’s path to recovery is different. We work with your child one-on-one to develop treatments based on their goals. Through daily meetings, we discuss programs and actionable steps they can take to keep their recovery on track.
  • Family-focused care: Families play an important role in inpatient mental health services for teens. We welcome your input through every step of treatment, including assessments, care meetings and discharge planning. You can participate in person, virtually or over the phone — whichever works best for your family.
  • Academics: Inpatient mental health services for teens do not have to mean putting your child’s education on hold. The Meadows has licensed teachers who provide daily on-site instruction. At discharge, we work with your child’s school to explain their ongoing mental health needs and how to meet them.

Psychiatric Hospital for Teens: What to Expect

Teens receive services in a peaceful setting that promotes healing. A child psychiatrist guides treatment programs. Additional providers include nurses, therapists and social workers. We communicate regularly to coordinate the services your child needs to get better. Inpatient stays are typically 7 to 10 days.

When you choose our inpatient mental health program for teens, here’s what to expect:

  • Getting ready: After waking up, your child has breakfast and takes medications.
  • Schooling: Teens undergo grade-appropriate instruction from licensed on-site teachers.
  • Community meeting: During this group discussion, participants share how treatment is going, what they’re looking forward to and challenges they need help with.
  • Group therapy: Adolescents participate in sessions covering a variety of topics, such as healthy relationships, substance use and stress management.
  • One-on-one care: Teens see a psychiatrist or other clinician to discuss treatment progress, medications and anything else that’s on their mind.
  • Free time: Toward the end of the day, your child can spend time at our gym or doing other social activities.
  • Family time: Your child may receive phone calls and visits from loved ones.
